I realize there is confusion around all of this, and I am working on getting displaced artists back into this building. The owner’s proposed plan to the planning department provides a significant portion of preserved artists space. 24 studios total and art gallery…about half of them have access to natural light. If Chad and other artists would like more details please feel free to message me. There will not be the additional rental expenses as detailed in the blog, space will be rented based on the actual sq ft of the studio at $2-2.50 a sq ft with annual increases of 3%. There are 17 spaces still available, but we will have to wait till the planning department approves it for them to be constructed.

The big tech companies should invest in rehabilitating properties to house their workers – win, win. What’s going to happen to all the pretty $3000 + studios when the turf wars begin? Or did you think the thousands of low income residents are going to just disappear without an ugly fight? Gentrification should include current residents first. All the slumlords taking advantage of the housing crisis to charge outrageous rents without so much as attempting to upgrade the shit holes they’re peddling should be fined.
